Passionate Pursuits

When you have a righteous conviction, something about which you are absoultely passionate, inconvenience is irrelevant.

As I pondered this statement, I realized that my passionate pursuit is advocating for children who have been abused and/or neglected.  For some, they share my passion, for others, it’s sharing the gospel of Christ…loving Him and making Him known, it’s working out and encouraging others to be healthy, it’s working with those in shelters, advocating for the mentally challenged, it’s making money to achieve a certain lifestyle or to be able to give more and meet needs or provide for their children.   A passionate pursuit, a righteous conviction towards change and making a difference can be anything.  We all have one, we just have to be willing to tap into it if we haven’t already.  What is yours?

Remember:  Commitment follows conviction.

Perseverance Quote

“The only thing that stands between a person and what they want in life is the will to try it and the faith to believe it.”  You gotta at least try to go after what you want.  If you do and it doesn’t work out, at least you will have TRIED instead of only WONDERED if it will work.  It you try and it succeeds…well then, you’ve exceeded your goal!  Your goal is to at least try!

“Helping Others” Prayer

“Father, in the name of Jesus, I will do unto others as I would have them do unto me.  I eagerly pursue and seek to help and serve others.  I am intentional in my desire to express Your nature.  I will esteem and look upon and be concerned for not just my own interests, but also for the interests of others.  I want to be a part of my church’s effort to offer life changing ministry to everyone.  I will, on purpose, make it a practice to help my neighbor for his good and for his true welfare, to edify, strengthen, and build him up spiritually, socially, and materially.  I will love my enemies.  I will be kind and do good knowing that You fight my battles.  I am merciful, sympathetic, tender, responsive, and compassionate, even as my Father is, for I am an imitator of Christ.  Therefore, I walk in real love and service towards my fellow man.  In Jesus’ name, Amen!  (Luke 6:27 & 31; Philippians 2:4; Romans 15:2)”

Also, my church is hosting a prayer campaign during October 2016.  Via a conference call, we meet every morning at 6:33 a.m. for prayer led by one person.  It lasts approximately 15-20 minutes and is a brief lesson or what I like to call “wisdom tips” for followers of Christ, a note of encouragement, and prayer.  We also have prayers for the month; the above is one of them.  Join us on the call.  Tootles!

Friendship Prayer

Below is a prayer regarding friendship, of which I have fallen in love!  Kudos to the author of this prayer!

“Father, I thank You for the gift of friendship.  Holy Spirit, show me how to embrace my friends in love and build them up with encouraging words.  As they go about their day, please bless them, Lord, protect them, and remind them that they are not alone in this world.  Help me to faithfully promote them and not be envious, but to rejoice in their triumphs and endure side-by-side during the seasons of life.  Help me to always be genuine and speak well of them when given the opportunity.  When they hurt, so knit our hearts that I feel it as well and offer good counsel.  Teach me always to be a stepping stone that leads them to You and never a stumbling block.  In Jesus’ name, Amen!  (1 Corinthians 13:4-7; John 15:12-13; 1 Samuel 18:1)”

Faith and Doubt

Why Do Christians Doubt?

If we believe that God is who He says He is and will do what He has promised, why do so many of us habitually waver in our prayers? Instead of exercising bold faith, we come to the Lord “hoping” He will hear us and answer our requests, but we’re just not sure He will. With this kind of thinking, we cannot expect to receive anything from Him.

One reason we are so prone to doubt is that we fail to see God at work in our circumstances. We asked, and nothing happened. But the Lord is not some cosmic bellhop who jumps in response to our requests. He sees past, present, and future and knows the right time for every answer. His invisible hand is already at work on our behalf—arranging situations to accomplish His will, opening hearts, and preparing us to receive what He wants to give.

Another cause for uncertainty is ignorance. If we don’t know God’s ways, we will be disappointed in His response. All too often our prayers are accompanied by expectations of how He will work. When He fails to intervene according to our timetable or anticipated method, we start to doubt. But placing our faith in the Lord and trusting in His good and perfect ways gives us stability as we wait for His answer.

To overcome doubts, spend time in the Word to learn God’s principles and ways. Then you’ll begin to grasp what He wants to achieve in your life and how He goes about it. Examine your past from a biblical perspective—faith will grow as you see the unexpected ways He answered your prayers.
